TVQA Assembly Day
Assembly Day is an annual event set up for all TVQA members to gather for fellowship and learning.
This event usually has a theme, a guest speaker, a luncheon, door prizes,
vendors and entertainment consisting of such things as a fashion show, play, or
display of quilts. Whatever form Assembly Day takes, it always proves to be
educational and inspiring. Usually held in August, Assembly Day is hosted by a
different guild each time, so the location will vary.
TVQA Spring Seminar
The TVQA Spring Seminar is a three-day workshop event featuring nationally
recognized
quilting teachers. It is planned by a committee and underwritten by TVQA. The
workshops, lectures and banquets offer TVQA members a wide variety of topics
from which to choose and participate. The Mary Lou Anderson Memorial Scholarship is available to a TVQA member for
attendance at the Spring Seminar. Interested members may apply by completing
and submitting an application form. Deadline for application is February 1 in
the year in which the Seminar is held.
TVQA Fall Retreat
The Fall Retreat is a two-day event providing a relaxed, fun time for
members. It is planned by a hosting member guild and
the program formats include workshops, games, and speakers. The Retreat is usually held at an inn or other suitable location. Attending
members pay for room and board.
White Glove Quilt Show
The White Glove Quilt Show is an event hosted by a TVQA member guild which is
also open to the public. This non-judged quilt show is a way for TVQA to
promote and support the art of quiltmaking to its
members and to the community. The show displays from 300 to 600 antique and
new quilts or quilt-related articles which feature a variety of quilting
techniques. The public, as well as TVQA members, are invited to submit entries for
the show. Demonstrations are often provided.
Tennessee State Fair
TVQA assists the in state fair by providing volunteers each year to hang and
remove the
quilts at the quilt exhibit.
TVQA provides a Pride in Workmanship ribbon and cash prize for this event.
Volunteers are needed to hostess the booths and answer visitors' questions.
Those interested in volunteering may contact the state fair advisor. This event
takes place in August/September.
Floating Quilt
TVQA has a quilt called the “floating quilt” which is composed of blocks
made by different TVQA member guilds. The quilt travels from place to place, and
from event to event. Anyone may quilt on the quilt, as it is used as a
teaching aid to demonstrate quilting and create interest in quiltmaking. Guilds
wishing to have the floating quilt at their guild event should contact the Floating
Quilt Chairperson.
Bus Trips
Periodically, day or overnight bus trips to quilting events are offered to
TVQA members.
Destinations vary but revolve around quilt-related venues and events such as
national quilt shows, quilt museums, quilt shops, and visits to a quilt
communities.
Coordinators welcome members’ suggestions for trip possibilities.
ABC Quilts
ABC quilts (Aids, Borderline, Cocaine) are made by TVQA volunteers for babies
that are born with AIDS, addictions to drugs, or have borderline addictions.
TVQA Library
The TVQA library is available to all TVQA members and is made available at the
quarterly Board meetings. Books, films and videos may be borrowed by any
member, or guild representatives may borrow these items to use in guild programs.
Items are returned at the next quarterly Board meeting. The TVQA Vice
President is responsible for the library.
Program Services
To help further quilt education, TVQA secures a list of TVQA teachers for
distribution to member guilds. TVQA pays transportation costs for TVQA teachers
who present programs, lectures or workshops at member guilds.
Quilting Services
While TVQA does not provide quilting services, it may be able to provide a
list of names of quilters available for this service.
Ribbons and Awards
TVQA provides certain ribbons and awards for various judged and non-judged
quilting events such as the Tennessee State Fair, the TVQA White Glove Quilt
Show, and various member-sponsored quilt shows. Ribbons such as "Pride in
Workmanship" is an example of a judged quilt show award. "Viewer's Choice" and "Merit
Award" are examples of non-judged quilt show awards and are determined by a
vote from viewers.
TVQA Qualified Judges
Whenever possible, TVQA provides a seminar for TVQA members to become TVQA
qualified judges. Members completing the seminar may become a TVQA qualified
judge, however this does not qualify her/him as a nationally certified judge.
